WorldSBK teams benefit from improved weather on day 2

WorldSBK teams testing at Jerez this week woke up to foggy, uncertain conditions this morning on Tuesday the 22nd of November, delaying track activity until after 10:00am local time (GMT+1). With the threat of afternoon showers forcing teams to make the most of the morning’s dry circuit, it was an added gain in the afternoon when the rain didn’t arrive, allowing riders to make the most of day 2.

Grillini Racing Team’s Ondrej Jezek was the first to get out on track, braving the gloomy conditions on his teammate’s bike. On Monday Jezek tested his own Kawasaki, which was the 2015 model, while today he put in some laps on Badovini’s 2016 ZX-10R as he prepares for his new bike ahead of next year. Both riders will be racing the 2016 model next year.

PJ Jacobsen was on track, this time on the MV Agusta F3 675. It hasn’t been confirmed whether the American will be riding the MV next year, but he didn’t miss the opportunity to get in some valuable laps with the benefit of being able to compare the MV to his Honda.

By 11am, most riders were out on track with the sun breaking through the clouds at 11:30am, with Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) taking his ZX-10RR out for the first time to test a new rear shock. His teammate Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) joined him on track a little later on, and spent the day testing out bike set-up. Making the most of the mixed conditions, Sykes hopes to have a more focused day in the dry on day three. By 14:30 everyone was out on track making the most of the sunshine.

Over in the Honda garage, Stefan Bradl (Honda World Superbike Team) confirmed that the basic set up such as rider position etc. was finalised, meaning the team’s focus on day 2 was targeted at finding optimal clutch settings and further work on the brakes. The Honda WorldSBK Team also utilised the day to do a comparison on the 2016 and 2017 Ohlins suspension components.

Jordi Torres (Althea BMW) continued his work on the new Fortis swingarm, in what was the final day of testing for Althea BMW Racing Team this week. Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) maintains a positive feeling upon his return to WorldSBK, and spent the day reacquainting himself with the tricky conditions faced with Pirelli tyres, hoping to test some engine and chassis parts on their third and final day of testing.

MotoGP™ riders Aleix Espargaro, Jack Miller and Loris Baz were at Jerez as spectators today, observing their WorldSBK counterparts and asking lots of questions as they prepare to join them on track tomorrow, on what will be day three for World Superbike riders. The lights will go green at 10:00am local time (GMT+1) for the third day of testing at the Circuito de Jerez on Wednesday the 22nd of November.
